Difficulties often breed discouragement. There is no question that young professional Christian women face difficulties. Difficulties in being a woman, difficulties in being a Christian, difficulties in being in the workforce, and difficulties in trying to live out all of these together.
Using the quote from Esther, Saint Paul’s Outreach launched a four part series exploring these difficulties through the lens of discussion instead of discouragement.
Yes, it is difficult to be a Christian women, but perhaps you were born for such a time as this. Perhaps you are the one who is meant to be part of the solution or to be a voice in answer to the many questions.
Kara Litzu, a woman, Christian, NET alum, wife, mother, and leader in the Heart of the Redeemer Covenant Community wrote three talks beginning with the current Culture of Contradiction, leading through Facing our Femininity, and concluding with Faithful Friendship. The fourth and final talk was an adaptation of a talk given by Jenna Jahnke on how it is easy to let our hearts become hardened with all the hurt we experience, but keeping our hearts alive and tender is not only good but also possible with a relationship with God.
After the each talk with a cup of tea or wine, and a snack in hand the women stayed around chatting, laughing, and discussing. Discussing their experience of the contradictory messages on femininity the culture sends. Discussing what femininity actually looks like, discussing the stereotypes women face, and discussing both the good and poor ways to address them in daily life.
