Thirst Conference 2013 w/ SPO @ UMN

Jesus said, ‘I thirst.’
— John 19: 28

Last weekend 20 SPO missionaries and students from the University of Minnesota and the University of St. Thomas embarked on a 7 hour journey  to Bismarck, North Dakota, or as I like to call it, “God’s Country.”  We attended Thirst 2013: A Eucharistic Conference, hosted by the Diocese of Bismark, and from the moment we left Minneapolis, God began to work in our hearts, bringing us closer to Himself and closer to each other.

We began the conference with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and nothing could have been more perfect.  It was amazing!   I have never been with so many Catholics in one place before. Seeing so many people humbly receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament made my heart rejoice. Throughout Thirst there were a number of incredible speakers: Scott Hahn, His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan, and many more. Their talks shared a common theme: Christ is calling us to fulfill our place in His perfect plan, and He wants us to know how much He thirsts for us.  More than anything, I was inspired and invigorated to do the Lord’s work and follow wherever He leads!

SPO Students and Missionaries at Thirst Conference 2013

With speakers such as Cardinal Dolan, Dr. Scott Hahn, and Dr. Edward Sri, the Thirst conference was an incredibly encouraging, faith boosting weekend. Their messages would not have had such a significant impact on me, however, if it were not for the many opportunities for confession, adoration and Mass throughout the weekend. These sacraments and adoration are what really opened my heart to what God brought me to the conference to hear. In three short days I left armed with practical tips for my prayer life, a renewed appreciation for Mass, and a deeper surrender of my life to God’s will. This conference is just one of many opportunities SPO has made possible for me to take part in that have enriched my faith, and I am so grateful to have this outreach in my life as a college student.
