When I was invited to Fan into Flame by a good friend of mine, I was not sure what to expect at first. The last time that I went on a religious retreat was for confirmation and I felt that it would be very good to go to another retreat. I remember my friend telling me to just stay open to what the retreat had to offer.
When we first sang in worship, something that I do not do enough of, I remembered those words. I really let myself get into the music, feeling the power of praise and worship that we as a community of believers shared in honoring God. When it was time for baptism of the Holy Spirit, I was excited and anxious. I had never participated anything like it and once again remembered to just stay open to what the Holy Spirit had to offer me. When I was being prayed over, my small group brothers beside me, I felt a calming peace. I closed my eyes and welcomed the Spirit in. I felt the Spirit come to me and I saw fire! I saw hues of orange, red, yellow, and blue, I could feel the gifts of the Holy Spirit and joy filled my heart.
Later, when I was praying over my brothers, I could see that fire flowing through me and into them, the Spirit was connecting all of us together. This experience was so amazing and new to me. I feel so blessed to have been able to experience the power and the beauty of the Holy Spirit working within me! I am so thankful that I was able to come to Fan Into Flame and I can’t wait for next year!
