VISION

34713460790_ee0f6d996a_o (2).jpg

Each January the SPO Missionary Staff (Mission Leaders and Mission Directors) gather for a mid-year Retreat.  It is not meant to be training (like MLT and MTT), but to be a retreat.  As such, our time together in January plays a very important role in the overall experience of a year on staff for a Mission Leader or Mission Director.

The goal of our time together is connection: with the Lord Jesus, with each other, and with the particular mission and way of life the Lord is asking us to carry out and live.

Our January retreat is called the "Missionary Staff Retreat."  This is meant to point to the fact that our time together isn't meant to serve only our Mission Leaders, but to provide a retreat and recharge for our Mission Directors, as well.  God willing everyone will leave with renewed focus and vigor for another season of ministry to college students

IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFO

Staff members should carefully review the MSR 2018 Travel Memo.
Students are responsible for their own travel costs.

Oak Ridge is unique from other SPO National Event locations (such as the NET Center), in that it is a Hotel and Conference Center, not a retreat center. Rooms and meeting spaces are upscale, relaxing, and ideal for our retreat.

Mission Leaders will generally stay three to a room with two double beds. Mission Directors will have the option to stay two to a room with two double beds. Each room has its own private bathroom.

To accommodate staff rooming preferences, attendees have the option of choosing roommates for MSR. First, please coordinate with your potential roommates. Second, please fill out the MSR 2018 Rooming Google Spreadsheet by filling in your name and your roommates' names in the same row. If an an attendee's name is not in the Google spreadsheet before the deadline, the attendee will be assigned roommates.
*Students will be assigned room, and thus will not get to pick their own rooms.

The Deadline for Roommate Signup is December 4th

FAQs (updated for MSR 2018)

[ Open All | Close All ]

1) Who is attending the retreat?
All Mission Leaders and Mission Directors are required to attend. Some students from various Chapters will join us for MSR and there may be other guests as well.

2) Why do I need to register?
Registration lets us know you’re attending, how many materials to organize, and how many beds/meals we'll need. If you don’t register, we can’t guarantee you a bed to sleep in, food to eat, or materials to use.

3) When do I need to register?
Register now! The deadline is December 4th.

4) What happens if I don’t register?
If you don’t register by December 4th and are attending the retreat (you show up), you may not have a bed to sleep in. We may also charge you the total cost of your meals.

5) What if something changes after I register (insurance, develop a food allergy, etc.)?
Let Brenten know.

6) Who pays for my travel?
SPO reimburses the majority of travel costs for SPO staff, but you are responsible for covering the initial costs. Keep in mind that specific travel restrictions apply (see above). Students are responsible for their own travel costs.

It’s an upscale hotel and conference center, unlike other venues we've used for SPO National Events. Oak Ridge also has a fitness center, sauna, gym, and racquetball court. It's certainly a step-up in retreat lodging.

8) Will I get a retreat schedule ahead of time?
You may not receive a precise, minute-by-minute schedule until your arrival in January, but you can expect that each day will include: Mass, corporate/personal prayer, meals, talks, recreation, and fellowship. The flow of the retreat will be similar to Mission Leader Training, but with different content.

9) What should I bring?
Apart from yourself and a good attitude, plan to bring: Bible/journal (prayer materials), toiletries, water bottle, winter gear (for you southern folks: coat, hat, gloves/mittens, scarf), recreation clothes, dress clothes (for Mass). Oak Ridge provides towels, bed linens, and blankets (among other hotel-room standards).

10) Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
Nope! See number 9.

11) Who actually purchases my flight?
You will purchase your individual airfare for the retreat. DO NOT use your SPO Credit Card. All purchases must be submitted for reimbursement. Students, see question number 6 (above).
