The NHQ Staff Has Fun, Too!

Ahoy Matey, Summer’s A’Here and this Seton Hall Pirate abandoned the New Jersey seas and ventured over to Minnesota, ready to navigate her next adventure at SPO’s National Headquarters!

Hi! My name is Angeli Fernandes and I just finished my sophomore year at Seton Hall University in New Jersey! I'm involved in Saint Paul's Outreach as a Student Missionary on campus and will be living in Household this coming year. For the past couple of weeks, I've been interning with SPO at their National Headquarters. NHQ is crazy busy, furthering the work of SPO on campuses. Without the work that is being done here, none of the missionaries would be able to serve.

Before coming to Minnesota, I believed that this internship was going to be much like other ones that I've done. Lots of sitting and typing, and not very much laughing. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been an avid watcher of The Office, but for some reason, I've always just assumed that work and fun do not overlap very much.

Well, that is certainly not the case at the National Headquarters!

This is evident through yesterday's HQ outing. Mary Sue invited us to her beautiful home for lunch, yard games, and boating on a pontoon (not exactly a pirate ship, but I’ll take it).

Our Cornhole tournment resulted in an epic showdown between the final two teams, Greg and Jay vs. Mary Sue and David, with Greg and Jay ultimately taking home the win!

As you can see, Hannah  also had a pretty great run.

Now working at the office isn't all fun and games. There's a lot that needs to get done so that the Missionaries are able to build the Kingdom on campus. But the fantastic people here make working at the office, doing ordinary tasks, full of life and joy.

Between trying to get our women's small group book published, figuring out how to launch an app for SNE, and the numerous other projects I've been working on, I've learned a lot these past few weeks. But the best part of it all, is knowing that the work that I'm doing is furthering God's kingdom, even if I don't necessarily see it firsthand.

I'm grateful that every single day we can serve the Lord "with glad and generous hearts" (Acts 2:46), and enjoy being a part of God's great plan for college campuses - fun included.

So, for anyone who has ever questioned it, THE NHQ STAFF HAS FUN, TOO!
