When we are faithful, the Lord shows up, and in Boston we saw that powerfully during our welcome week. In a particular way, we saw the Lord move powerfully in the men’s community. Here, Michael Bielejeski, our Chapter Leader, shares his experience of the week:
“Winter Welcome Week January 2019 was a huge success at Northeastern University, particularly on the men’s side. The Thursday of Winter Welcome Week we hosted M.E.A.T. Fest or Men Eating Angus Together. We purchased 84 lbs of brisket, steak, and bacon to cook and eat that night. Walking through the front door your senses were immediately assailed by the smell of bacon. This smell lasted the better part of a week. As we prepared for guys to arrive, we set up table and chairs as well as a TV for the well beloved game of Smash Ultimate which our men’s community plays regularly, if not constantly. The music was turned up, the lights were on, and we waited for men to show up. The first few to walk through the door were regulars at the Catholic Center (CC). Slowly but surely men trickled into the building. A few new guys showed up, then more, and more, and more. Before I knew it, the room was almost full and I only knew about a quarter of the men there. I quickly ran downstairs to get Adam, one of our missionaries, out of cooking detail and get him upstairs to meet all the new men there. Total we had between 40-50 men show up to our event which is more men than have ever come to any CC event! Conversations were had, games were played, and meat was eaten! It was incredible how many guys showed up because of the promise of free meat! Our men’s community did an awesome job of welcoming the new guys, getting to know them, and making them feel like they were home. It was great to witness them striving to bring others into the community.
Following Meat Fest we had two more great events, Ice Skating and a Men’s Lord’s Day. We had a huge turnout of guys to ice-skating that came out again after meat fest. We had almost twice as many people show up this year as last year. On Saturday the Men’s house hosted a Lord’s day. It was mostly returning men but we ended up having three guys who had just started coming around join us. We had 18 guys in our house that night. It was awesome to worship with them, share what we are grateful for, and just enjoy being together. The last guy didn’t leave the house until well after 11pm! All told this week was an incredible time for our Men’s Community and shows great signs of growth.”
