Year-End Reflection: Following God's Call

Alicia Yunker, one of SPO Ohio's Mission Leaders, is finishing up her year serving SPO. Throughout the year Alicia has lived in the SPO Women's Household and organized the many outreach events SPO provides on OSU and ODU's campus. We are grateful for Alicia's service and send her off with prayers and love as she embarks on the next stage in her life.

Last year at this time I was preparing myself for a year of service with Saint Paul’s Outreach.  Now I’m finishing up last minute projects and responsibilities for the year.  I am amazed at how fast this year has gone by, but I’m not amazed at how much the Lord has worked this year in my life and the lives of the students.  I heard once that we can expect great things to happen and imagine how things will end up, but in the end God will always exceed our expectations.  God has definitely exceeded any weak expectation I had of how He would use me this year.

As we kicked off the year my expectations were first blown away by the success of One Gospel.  The Lord provided in ways I couldn’t even imagine.  We were impacting over one hundred students by one event.  Fall quarter we had One Gospel once a week and we knew going into Winter/Spring quarters that wouldn’t be enough.  We adjusted the calendar so that twice a month we were using One Gospel to reach more students and help them become more active in their faith.  Because of the work God has done through One Gospels this year we will continue to hold them every other week this upcoming year.

This year I have witnessed a lot of growth within the community of SPO.  Several of the women involved in the ministry have had deep conversions in their lives.  I have seen them giving more and more of their lives over to Christ and the community as a whole has grown closer to Christ.  This year had been a year of growth and I know that although I have yet to see how some of these growing pains will flourish into God’s plan, I know that he is doing big things within Saint Paul’s Outreach.

As I reflect on the impact this year of service has had on me I can’t help but recall when I finally decided to serve with Saint Paul’s Outreach in Ohio.  I am so blessed that God gave me the opportunity to serve with SPO.  I hope that I have in some way help impacted and shaped SPO through my service.  I know that my year of service has given me the chance to go deep in my relationship with Christ.  I have never had to trust more fully in the Lord than I did this year.  I know that although it’s not always the easiest way, following God’s call is the perfect way.
