This past weekend, the SPO Ohio Men’s and Women’s Households spent time on retreat together with their community. Each group consisted of students from Ohio State, Ohio Dominican and Bowling Green who have committed to spending a year living in intentional community with their peers. These communities are beacons on each campus for those searching for the Lord and in need of a place of comfort, compassion and selfless love. Gina Bauer, a Mission Leader at Bowling Green, shares her reflections on time spent with the women of SPO Ohio.
This past weekend, the SPO Ohio women met again in joyful reunion at The Children of Mary in Newark, Ohio for our Women's Household retreat. Women from Ohio State, Ohio Dominican and Bowling Green came together, and we found the hand of the Lord was at work in and among us during the retreat. We prayed together, ate together, nourished friendships, and called each other on in holiness, communion, and mission.
Besides these relaxing moments, we also cut down brush, moved a tree, slept in a barn, had a campfire, and managed to make pancakes and eggs for 16 women...with a single skillet! After such an excellent and adventurous weekend, all I can say is the Lord truly knows what his daughters need. Whether it was given through an exhortation or something as simple as spending time with sisters around the campfire, I know that this weekend, each of us received what we needed to begin this year of mission. The knowledge that the Lord will always provide the grace, growth, zeal, and love I and my sisters need was such an encouragement to me. Maybe that’s just what I needed!
