SPO Ohio is off to a running start this school year, and had an especially eventful weekend recently! On Friday, we were happy to host the 2nd Annual Missionary Dedication at OSU’s Newman Center, honoring the SPO Ohio Missionaries and commissioning them for the school year.
12 of the 13 students serving as Missionaries were in attendance – OSU student David Bethel was unable to attend as he is serving with a National Science Foundation project researching agricultural systems in Senegal. In addition, 4 of SPO Ohio’s 7 full time Mission Leaders were in attendance, while the other 3 Mission Leaders were busy building the SPO community at our newest chapter campus, West Virginia University.
The evening began with prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by a dedication prayer by OSU Newman Center director, Father Joe Ciccone, CSP. The evening concluded with a reception upstairs, where SPO alumni and current SPO students got to know this year’s Missionaries through a brief introduction from each. Please pray for each of our Missionaries as they bring Christ to their campuses!
During the school year, Saturdays in Columbus mean Buckeye football. SPO took advantage of this college football tradition by gathering together alumni to watch to Buckeyes take on Central Florida. Close to 50 alumni, ranging from SPO’s first graduating class in 2006 to this past June’s grads, gathered to watch, and ultimately celebrate the Buckeye’s 31-16 victory. Besides watching the game, alumni caught up on each other’s’ lives, giving congrats to recent nuptials, engagements, religious vows, pregnancies and births. It was a great gathering, and we hope to have many more! If you’re SPO Ohio alumni, or an SPO alumni living in Ohio, fill out our Alumni Survey to help us get SPO alums together more often!
A big thanks to all who attended this past weekend’s events! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
