Happy 2013! We at SPO are excited for this new calendar year and looking forward to the start of a new semester on Monday! But, before we move forward on mission, we’d like to share with you a few stories from some of our Missionaries from this past semester. Enjoy!
“My E-Group (Bible Study) is super inspiring. One of the members of my group pointed out something super in this weekend's second reading that I've been turning over in my mind. Towards the end of the psalm it talks about going out tearfully with seeds to sow and coming back from the harvest with sheaves of wheat and how we are going out to plant the seeds of God's message and one day we'll be going home with those brothers and sisters we reached out to. This really blessed my life this week; I'm continually impressed by those around me!”
“(When we delivered buckeyes to our neighbors in the student neighborhood) (w)e didn’t exhort them on passage in scripture or dump philosophical or theological conversation on them. But what we did do is extend and open hand and introduce ourselves to 20 houses of neighbors, simply because we wanted to get to know them and invite them in to our lives. I
have a feeling the spontaneous joy we shared with them was very refreshing.”
“I’m so thankful for the girls in my house. One of the biggest joys in my life has been getting to
know each of them better and more deeply. Sharing life with them is such a blessing. “
“I am greatly honored to be serving as a missionary and to be working alongside the men and women here to make God more known
and loved at Ohio State….(I see) young people being raised up as leaders in the Church and society and college students (being) transformed by the good news of God’s great love for them.”
“This past One Gospel, I invited a friend to One Gospel. She had been before and strongly disliked it and he wasn't even Catholic. I knew she was very uncomfortable with charismatic prayer, but I took a risk. I spent the few days after she told me she'd be come praying for her, that she would get what she needed from One Gospel and have a positive experience. A few days after One Gospel, I had dinner with my friend and she told me that she really had needed something like One Gospel at that point in her life. She asked for me to continue to invite her. I can't even begin to explain how surprised I was!! I had expected her to tolerate One Gospel at best for me. God works in amazing and unexpected ways."
“Just living (in Household) has on its own inspired me to be more prayerful in my day to day personal life…Just the knowledge that I’m part of this has by itself influenced me to strive for greater faith, and more chances to glorify God by serving his people.”
Here’s to many more stories in the semester to come! God bless!
