Anyone who has ever been touched by the Holy Spirit knows that He is a mighty revolution! What we find when we turn to the Holy Spirit in prayer, and when we invite Him to stir up His life and love inside of us, is a complete and radical change in our heart, our mind, and our exterior life.I still remember so tangibly that moment 10 years ago when I was a senior in high school when the Holy Spirit accomplish a powerful revolution in my own life.
I was a normal Catholic teenager who went to Mass on Sundays, was involved in youth group activities, but struggled believing some teachings of the Church and definitely struggled living the moral life of the Church. The gifts of the Holy Spirit had been given to me through the Sacraments but they all laid dormant in my life, unused and unrealized, until one simple day at daily Mass. I had been studying the truth of the Eucharist a lot and struggling with belief in the true presence, when I fell to my knees, all alone in my room, in tears of frustration and prayed, “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.” That day I went to Mass and received Jesus’ body, blood, soul and divinity with full faith, and it was then when the Holy Spirit was stirred up in me and He fanned into flame the gifts of the Spirit. It was a revolution of holiness, a complete and radical change where I gave my life over to Jesus, and I knew then and there, there was no turning back.
After this, I went on to serve as a missionary with NET Ministries where I learned how to pray, how to serve selflessly, and how to live as a son of God and a brother in Christ. After serving with NET, I had a passionate desire to not only serve a mission year, but to live a mission life. It was then that I decided to become part of the mission of St. Paul’s Outreach, striving to bring the Catholic faith to life on college campuses. I went to the School of the New Evangelization where my heart was set on fire for sharing in the mission of Christ the Redeemer and bringing souls to God the Father.
For three years I served with SPO, striving to spread faith at Ohio State and Ohio Dominican University. Living and spreading the faith in college would have been impossible without the support and environment of the SPO Men’s Household. Alone, my spirit of zeal would have been crushed by the world, the flesh, and the devil, but together with the SPO brotherhood, we banded together like the early Apostles and worked tirelessly on personal holiness and the mission of evangelization.
It was during these three years with SPO where my faith developed in maturity and I was able to discern the mission God was calling me to live.
What did my time with St. Paul’s Outreach teach me? Because of the life in the Spirit I lived while with SPO, I have learned how to live a missionary lifestyle and I feel compelled to encourage others to do the same. In Holiness Revolution, I am seeking to help people realize that the world is in dire need of change- that people are hurting and turning to empty promises searching for answers. All along, we have the answer: Jesus! In Holiness Revolution, your eyes will be awakened to the need for change in this world. You will be challenged to live a life of radical discipleship that brings that change. And you will learn how to discern where God is calling you to change the world. It’s time to stop making excuses and start taking action. Only from God, only from the saints, does true revolution come. Will you join the revolution of holiness?
