On the evening of October 24, 2013, SPO Ohio celebrated its ninth annual Benefit Banquet.
From the moment that guests entered the Ohio Union, they experienced the power of SPO environments. Guests were greeted and engaged in short welcoming conversations outside the ballroom by SPO students, and upon entering the ballroom, were invited to participate in a five-minute Bible Study or evening prayer together. What a wonderful way to share our outreach efforts with supporters!
The evening was filled with many memorable moments:
- We heard stories of transformation from OSU seniors David Bethel and Kara Shockey.
- The Most Reverend Bishop Frederick Campbell delivered a remarkable keynote address, reminding us that as Christians we are given power and courage to engage the world by announcing what we have seen and heard through Jesus Christ.
- SPO Ohio Center Director Andrew Kebe gave witness to the awesome way Jesus is proclaimed each day as Catholic students live out their faith on college campuses.
- SPO students and alumni concluded the evening by singing, "Lord I Need You," a song written by musician Matt Maher. Halfway through the song, the entire audience joined in. It was truly a moving and spiritual experience for all.
Banquet planners had set ambitious goals for this year's event, and it was humbling to see how God blessed us in our efforts. We met both our attendance and financial goals, almost to the dollar. Indeed, it is God our Father who desires the success of SPO's mission more than we do. The banquet was a great first step toward meeting our financial goals in Ohio this year: to build our mission of helping students live Catholic. Every. Day.
Ad majorem dei gloriam!
