Missionaries and students of The Ohio State University are starting the year strong with CRUSH Week ‘Catholic Rush Week.’ Armed with anticipation for a fresh new year, a zeal for strong community, and a heart for the people of Ohio State, we took the leap into a full schedule for a week of dedicated outreach. Missionaries, along with our students who are committed to a life for the Lord, poured ourselves into a variety of events in an effort to forge new relationships with students and create a presence on campus. The week climaxed with our annual hog roast. The event was well attended by an estimated 250+ students, who joined in yard games, delicious food, and fellowship. There we collected the names and contact info for any who wished to be involved with us throughout the year. In addition to bible studies and prayer opportunities, students will be joining us for sports, tea time, hiking adventures, game nights, jam sessions and many other relationship oriented activities!
Throughout the week, missionaries and students occupied the Oval and hosted several yard games and activities. There we handed out an abundance of freezie pops, and were able to meet a variety of students on their way to class or simply out and about looking for community. Our committed presence at a specific time and place every day that week provided a reliable community that people knew they could be a part of.
All in all the week set us up well to continue building on relationships we forged early on. Since that week the month of September has been one of dedicated community building. Our households are established and have become hubs for mission and personal growth. Our formation program has taken off with a series on the importance and practicals of relationships. And our missionaries and students are experiencing the goodness of the Lord in the day to day: homework, meals, mission, football games, leisure, adventure, and prayer. We now wait to see what the Lord has in store for this year!
