Alex Opfer

Title: Mission Leader

Mission Center: Minnesota

Chapter: University of Minnesota

Alex was born and raised Catholic in the city of Sandusky, Ohio, and is bilingual in both English and Puns. When he's not talking about Jesus he enjoys hand lettering and having riveting conversations about fonts (his favorites are Century Gothic and Baskerville). He is a former backyard whiffleball league home run champ and loves playing and watching sports.

Alex’s parents instilled in him the importance of faith throughout his childhood, but it wasn't until college that Alex first found a relationship with Jesus. He knew he didn't want to live the stereotypical college lifestyle, so after coming in contact with the St. Tom's community at Bowling Green State University, he began to challenge himself to grow in his faith. At BGSU, Alex studied graphic design and had dreams of working for Nike.

But the Lord had other plans, and Alex felt called to use his talents to serve the Lord. Towards the end of his junior year, he was introduced to Saint Paul’s Outreach at a Fan Into Flame retreat and immediately fell in love with the community. He knew that he wanted to be a part of SPO for more than just that weekend. Due to some divine intervention, he was able to do a graphic design internship with SPO and live in summer household. After that experience, he returned back to BGSU for his senior year with a renewed conviction of wanting to serve the Lord after graduation.

Alex ultimately chose to serve with Saint Paul's Outreach because of the authentic brotherhood and passionate community he experienced, and is excited to be serving on the University of Minnesota campus this year.

He is also a firm believer that the Goo Goo Dolls are the greatest band in the world, but if you don't agree he'll "let it slide."
