A Hocus SPOCUS Halloween

The unfortunate reality of our society's take on Halloween is that there comes a time when children graduate from cute costumes and trick-or-treating to using the holiday as an excuse to justify rampantly immodest dress, alcohol abuse and a lust for more than just candy. Here at Texas State, we are actively taking steps to combat this mentality!

Last Friday, Our Lady of Wisdom University Parish sponsored our annual "Hocus SPOCUS" Halloween party, planned and executed by the SPO and FOCUS team members (hence the name).

Students and staff adorned the SPO men's Household with decorations designed by the women in the community for a fun and spooky atmosphere. Over 100 people came decked out in a brilliant variety of costumes ranging from 1960s pop art to Hawaiian punch (both of whom left the night with gift card prizes for their wit and creativity!).

Batman, Pinoccio, Bilbo, Mary Poppins and the like danced their shoes off in the light of the tiki torches glowing through the fog machine's eerie mist. Some guests competed to mummify a teammate in toilet paper while others bobbed for apples or just stood on the sides and talked. The festivities wrapped up right around the time the neighboring frat house began their own Halloween party at midnight.

Overall it was a very successful event that gave students an opportunity to celebrate Halloween with good clean fun, as well as bring about more unity among the many organizations that operate out of Our Lady of Wisdom such as SPO, FOCUS, and the Catholic sorority and fraternity.
